NewPipe is a really great app, we should use it more as an example of why FOSS puts users first and proprietary software doesn't

@sir
I really wish I could switch over completely but it still doesn't have a chronological feed.

@jeffalyanak this is a really bad reason to not use NewPipe

@sir
As it is, with NewPipe I'd have to open and check every one of my subscriptions one at a time for new videos with no indication as to which might have new videos, which is a really *good* reason not to use NewPipe.

@sir @jeffalyanak not sure if you're aware of this, but you can go to Settings -> Appearance -> Content of main page and add "What's New" to your tabs, which will contain the newest video from each of your subscriptions roughly in the order you subscribed to them

@aminb
@sir
Yeah, but because this isn't actually chronological I get many, many videos that are years or months old.

The channels that I subscribe to are a mix of those that update frequently and those that don't, so that view doesn't work well for my use.

@jeffalyanak @aminb some day you'll learn that you're better served by prioritizing being in control and not being taken advantage of before the little things. Until then, use whatever you want.

@sir
@aminb
How am I being taken advantage of with my current solution? I am *not* logging into a Google account nor using the YouTube app.

@sir
@aminb
I run YouTube in a Firefox container and rather than logging into Google I use a custom Greasemonkey to take my subscription list and build a chronological list. My subscription list stays on my end.

@jeffalyanak @aminb that sounds miserable compared to NewPipe. But you do your thing

@sir
@aminb
Well, for desktop it works great. It looks and feels very close like YouTube's own subscription page. NewPipe literally won't do that, so I can't use NewPipe for that, miserable or not.

@jeffalyanak @sir i guess you could consider contributing that feature to NewPipe, given that it's Free Software :)

@aminb
@sir
Yeah! I was considering asking whether it was something they would be interested in before I made a pull request, but yeah.

@jeffalyanak @sir i know i'd be interested and appreciative of having that feature 🙂

@sir
Well, SkyTube has that feature already. Apparently the NewPipe team has been having issues with implanting it for some time now.
